We celebrated country’s achievements in response to pandemic: DOH

ABU DHABI, The UAE has reinforced its global stature by achieving significant successes, most notably by advancing its healthcare system.

The UAE and the world celebrate the annual World Health Day on 7th April, held this year under the theme, “Our Planet, Our Health,” to highlight the many related issues affecting humanity. Under this framework, the World Health Organisation (WHO) stressed that over 13 million deaths per year are caused by air pollution and water scarcity.

Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi (DOH), said this year, the world will celebrate World Health Day under the theme, “Our Planet, Our Earth,” to remind the people about the close link between the health of the planet and people’s health.

The achievements of Abu Dhabi in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the support and directives of its leadership, highlights its leadership and innovation in the healthcare sector, he added, noting that it is the preferred destination for many health companies and professionals.

Dr. Anwar Sallam, Group Chief Medical Officer at SEHA, highlighted to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that SEHA confirms its commitment to support the country’s efforts to follow a more flexible attempt to support the environment.

“Being the largest healthcare network in the UAE, we are committed to leading the way in promoting environmental sustainability. We are all responsible for protecting our communities by protecting our planet and partnering together,” he said.

On the other hand, the World Health Organisation pointed out that over 90 percent of people breathe unhealthy air due to the burning of fossil fuels of all kinds. With rising temperatures, our world is also witnessing mosquitoes spreading disease faster than ever before and extreme weather phenomena causing land degradation and scarcity.

The WHO had held its first meeting in 1948, and the organisation decided to celebrate World Health Day on 7th April every year since 1950. The international organisation benefits from this opportunity to raise awareness about global health and the benefits of having good health by holding several international and local events, where governments and various organisations exert efforts to support the WHO and participate in World Health Day.
