Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Mathias Vacek said: “I still can’t believe I’ve won. It’s amazing, I’m still really young at 19 years old, so this victory means so much to me. I thought I’d try to go in the breakaway today and help Dmitrii [Strakhov] to keep the black jersey. At 10km before the finish, I knew we had 1 minute and 15 seconds advantage, so then I was fully focussed on the sprint.”

The Red Jersey Tadej Pogacar said: “We started the stage normally, but it was quite a hard pace all day. The breakaway played the game well and had enough in their legs to push the last 15km and they made it. It’s nice to see the breakaway win, I was surprised. Tomorrow is the most exciting day but it will be the hottest day of the whole week. We’re ready to defend the jersey and we’re not too stressed.”
