UAE’s Al Jazira thrash Tahiti’s AS Pirae in FIFA Club World Cup opener

Tournament hosts Al Jazira will meet Saudi Al Hilal in the next round of the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday after thrashing Tahiti’s AS Pirae 4-1 today int he UAE capital.

It was a one-sided affair in this first-round match as Al Jazira easily proceeded to the second round courtesy of goals from Zayed Al Ameri, Ahmed Al Hashmi, Milos Kosanovic and Malian forward Abdoulaye Diaby.

The FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2021 sees the world’s top teams come together in the UAE capital to compete for the most prestigious honour in global club football. The matches kicked off on 3 February, with the final taking place on 12 February.

The matches are played across two venues: Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium and Al Nahyan Stadium, in Abu Dhabi.

Participating teams include the champions of Concacaf (Monterrey), UEFA (Chelsea), CONMEBOL (SE Palmeiras), the AFC (Al Hilal SFC), and CAF (Al Ahly SC), UAE’s Al Jazira and OFC representative, AS Pirae.

The FIFA Club World Cup’s return to Abu Dhabi comes to further cement the UAE’s position as a world class host of major sports events. Over the past few months, the Emirati capital’s sporting schedule featured the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix, UFC Fight Island, Abu Dhabi Marathon, Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Abu Dhabi 2021 FINA World Swimming Championships and Abu Dhabi HSBC golf championship at Yas Links.
