Spain's Mario Mola, Britain's Jodie Stimpson win first World Triathlon Series race in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 5th March 2016 (WAM) — Spain’s Mario Mola and Great Britain’s Jodie Stimpson were crowned the first World Triathlon Series race champions after winning in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

The par are among of 130 of the world’s fastest triathletes striving to earn the first world rankings points of the year as they begin their final preparations for this summer’s Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

Despite serving a ten­-second time penalty, Mola was able to seize his back­-to-back Abu Dhabi title, while Stimpson claimed her first WTS victory since the 2014 season.

Mola won last year’s race in Abu Dhabi over the sprint distance and repeated that performance over the Olympic distance at the capital’s Corniche Breakwater.

Claiming her first WTS victory since 2014, Great Britain’s Jodie Stimpson finally earned her way back to the top of the podium by winning the first race of the season at the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi.

The next leg of the International Triathlon Union’s World Triathlon Series will be staged in Gold Coast, Australia, from 9th-10th April 2016, while the third will be staged in Cape Town, South African from 23th-24th April and the final leg in Yokohama, Japan, from 14th-15th May.
