From 12 to 21 of January, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) will host a delegation of students, teachers and experts from California State University – Chico. The visit aims at exchanging experiences, developing Adapted Physical Education (APE) services, and consolidating the use of best and latest practices based on scientific evidence.
Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of SCHS, has confirmed that this visit comes within the framework of achieving SCHS’s strategic objectives “2022-2032”. These goals include “adopting institutional learning and knowledge production approaches in national, regional and global institutions” through networking with universities and research centers locally and internationally. In addition, SCHS wants to document and build treatment models, academic services and develop the scope and quality of services.
She pointed to the importance of the approved program for the visit in developing many aspects of work during this stage, especially the activities related to APE and its services provided to persons with disabilities of all ages.
Her Excellency said, “The practical exchange of experiences and the participation of students and experts of the delegation in physical education classes and other activities included in the physical education teachers program in SCHS contributes directly to achieving results. It paves the way for a fruitful discussion between the members of the delegation and SCHS teachers in a realistic and direct manner”.
SCHS president talked about the importance of the workshops that the visiting program will witness and their role in providing SCHS’s needs for modern information in the field of physical education provided by the experts of California State University – Chico. She believes that one of the many advantages of the program is that it allows physical education teachers in SCHS to travel and train in the United States of America for two weeks in each of the two years of the proposed program.
The visit program was prepared a while ago with a series of “remote” meetings between SCHS’s working team of officials and physical education specialists with California State University – Chico experts. Professor “Rebecca Lytle”, Head of the delegation, discussed matters such as the teachers’ experience in SCHS, their practical, scientific and training needs, and their proposals for developing physical education services.
Moreover, Professor Rebecca provided a set of specialized references that meet some of SCHS’s needs in the field of physical education. In addition, she made a presentation to SCHS’s work team on APE in the United States of America, which deals with modern visions in this field.
Professor Rebecca praised the advanced level that SCHS has reached through diligence and keenness to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of persons with disabilities. SCHS employs it to serve its students at the hands of empowered specialists, noting that many of SCHS’s working methods are similar to those used in the United States of America.
She directed her sincerest thanks to Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of SCHS, for all her efforts in order to include, advocate and empower people with disabilities in line with the latest practices. She also thanked her for providing the opportunity for the delegation of California State University – Chico to visit SCHS and share experiences.
One of the distinctive aspects of the program is that university students and experts will participate in physical education classes with SCHS’s students and teachers.
On the other hand, a team of experts from California State University – Chico visited SCHS during the past week and toured a number of departments and centers. They were briefed on the programs and services provided by SCHS in general.
In conclusion, the visit of the delegation of California State University – Chico to SCHS falls within the framework of its continuous endeavor to develop its services and expertise, develop, and strengthen cooperation with international agencies and institutions.
