Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), was so proud because 152 students from the Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment received certificates for completing the Continuing Education Program (BTEC). Her Excellency praised the efforts they made under the supervision of their teachers and trainers, which enabled them to possess the basic skills of the program. .
She said, “The city believes in the right of all persons with disabilities to education. One of the most important objectives of the continuing education program is to ensure the promotion of this right. In addition to the continuous development of personal and professional skills”.
By providing specialized programs and supporting students through academic guidance and follow-up, the city seeks to provide optimal educational opportunities and ensure their educational continuity in accordance with international best practices.
She added, “In January 2020, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services received international accreditation for teaching Pearson Foundation programs that combine global educational content and assessment supported by services and technology to enable more effective teaching and learning on a large scale. The “Pearson BETC” program was adapted by the Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment due to the ability to benefit from the flexibility it provides, which meet the needs of the affiliated students”.
She explained that the international accreditation constituted a unique shift in the work of the center and the study of students within its classes with a clear methodology and strategy from the beginning until the student’s graduation. She hopes to achieve results that are more distinguished.
This happened after the ceremony of handing over certificates of completing the continuing education programs “BTEC”, which was organized by the city’s Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Al-Zahra Hall at the University of Sharjah.
The ceremony began with blessed recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran by student Muhammad Al-Naqbi. Then, student Yazan Basil delivered a speech on behalf of students, in which he expressed his sincerest thanks and appreciation to Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of SCHS, who spares no effort in providing the best services for people with disabilities in all fields. After that, the audience watched a short film about Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment. Then, the 152 students of the center received the certificates of the Continuing Education Program “BETC”.
Among the academic programs offered in continuing education and professional programs are “art, design, sports, hospitality, agriculture, digital media, and self-development programs including employment skills and independent living skills. In addition, there are “Arabic, English” languages, and physical therapy services and career, assistive technology, counseling sessions, academic and supportive counseling.
The Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services provides its services to persons with disabilities who are over 16 years old and their parents. It is the last stage of the educational and training pyramid according to the methodology of the rehabilitation process in the city. SCHS always emphasizes the importance of employing persons with disabilities in various government and private institutions and integrating them into the community, after empowering them and strengthening the principle of self-advocacy, in full accordance with the vision and objectives of the city.
One of the most important objectives of the center is to empower persons with disabilities, rehabilitate and train them to find educational and job opportunities. In addition, the city enables affiliates and job seekers to live independently in various areas of life, rely on themselves and have confidence in decision-making.
As for the Employment Section of the Masarat Center, it provides various services to job seekers and employees with disabilities. The most important objectives are economic empowerment, sustainability, independence and career development through the access of all persons with disabilities to equal work opportunities, non-discrimination in employment, improving their quality of life and achieving social inclusion.
