Kazakhstan takes part in Global Law Summit in London
ishkek (AKIpress) – Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Askhat Daulbayev took part in the Global Law Summit that is being held in London on 23-25 February.The Kazakh delegation is led by Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Mr. Karim Massimov.
At the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Massimov, U.S. Attorney General Mr. Eric Holder, Minister of Justice and Lord Chancellor of the UK Mr. Chris Grayling, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Mr. Angel Gurria delivered their speeches.
On the sidelines of the summit, Mr. A.Daulbayev held bilateral meetings with his foreign counterparts – Ministers of Justice and Prosecutor Generals of the USA, Canada, Romania, Turkey, Oman, and the UAE.
At the meeting with US Attorney General Mr. Holder, the sides congratulated each other with the signing of the Treaty on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters and discussed legal cooperation issues.
Daulbayev also met with Director of the UK Serious Fraud Office Mr. David Green. They discussed a wide range of issues related to human rights activities of the prosecution office, cooperation in combating transnational organized crime, money laundering, as well as the process of Kazakhstan’s accession to the Council of Europe Conventions.
The parties stressed the urgency of uniting efforts in the framework of countering terrorism, providing national and international security, operative exchange of information and experience, also having noted the significant potential of legal cooperation between two countries.
Mr. A.Daulbayev underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation, exchange of information and experience in combating organized crime. Special attention was paid to the problems of detection and investigation of economic crimes, fraud, money laundering and return of assets obtained by criminal means.
The sides expressed mutual interest in further strengthening of cooperation between the competent authorities of two countries to effectively counter the challenges and threats of the modern world, development of common approaches for solution of regional problems in fighting against crime.
The Global Law Summit is organized by the British authorities in honor of the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta – the Great Charter of Liberty, written with the purpose of promoting free market economy and the rule of law.
The forum was attended by nearly 2000 representatives of state and business structures, non-governmental organizations and academic circles from around the world. The main topics of the agenda were the issues related to the rule of law, access to justice, sustainable development, international business disputes, business and human rights, etc.
