Inclusive Quality Education for All “Towards an Easier Life

Sharjah Autism Center, which is an affiliate of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), is organizing an Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness Campaign during April 2022. This coincides with the World Autism Day, which the world recognize on April 2 of each year, and under the theme “Inclusive Quality Education for All – Towards an Easier Life”.

This year’s celebration focuses on inclusive education in the context of the fourth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It aims at raising the level of culture in society, and promoting the integration of people with autism spectrum disorder.

The theme was chosen to emphasize the need of people with autism spectrum disorder to acquire the ability to take advantage of the possibilities and opportunities available to reach happiness and satisfaction. They would acquire the ability to develop their abilities and overcome difficulties and challenges.

Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services established the Sharjah Autism Center in 2002. The center provides services to 79 people with autism spectrum disorder. The center has 43 teachers, supervisors, specialists and administrators. The center contributes to providing appropriate specialized educational and treatment services for people with autism spectrum disorder and their families. It also works to develop partnerships and cooperation with autism institutions and centers locally, regionally, and globally, in accordance with best practices.

Dr. Siham Al Hemaimat, Director of Sharjah Autism Center, has confirmed that the campaign theme bears a call to support people with autism spectrum disorder to obtain good, comprehensive and equitable education. Especially after the repercussions of the COVID 19 pandemic, which led to the temporary closure of educational institutions around the world. The world stopped providing services, which resulted in disruption in the learning process.

The theme “Towards an Easier Life” that Sharjah Autism Center adopted along with the global slogan carries a message that providing services to people with autism spectrum disorder should be easier and have more quality.

She said, “The Sharjah Autism Center continues to provide services to people with autism spectrum disorder in line with the motto and strategy of the United Nations. The center improves the educational environment to contribute to a better and easier education”.

The Center’s celebration of World Autism Day will not be limited to one day only. However, the center will organize educational and scientific events and activities throughout the month of April. They aim at increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism spectrum disorder, and enhancing global support.

Therefore, on Monday, April 4, 2022, Sharjah Autism Center organized a scientific symposium under this year’s theme, Inclusive Quality Education for All “Towards an Easier Life”. The center hosted a number of consultants and professionals. They discussed two main themes: mental health of people with autism spectrum disorder and their families, and drug therapy and treatment programs and career prospects.

Participants in the symposium also discussed the important role of sports in the lives of people with autism spectrum disorder, the latest educational practices, the professional and career future, and the impact of Assistive Technologies in serving this category. The keenness was evident in all themes to keep pace with the center’s slogan in order to provide an easier life for people with autism spectrum disorder.

During the period from 7 to 10 April 2022, the Center would organize an art gallery for the works of students with autism spectrum disorder in (Al Zahia Mall). SCHS branches in Khorfakhan, Al Dhaid and Kallba, Dubai Autism Center, Ras Al Khaimah Autism Center, Emirates Autism Center, Rashid Center for People with Disabilities, Al Noor Center for Autism will participate in this art gallery”, added Dr. Siham Al Hemaimat.

The gallery aims to highlight the significant role of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services in supporting and serving people with autism spectrum disorder, integrating them into society, and enhancing the spirit of achievement and interaction through participation and competition among students.

In cooperation with the International Scientific Mission School, the Center would organize within its campaign an exhibition of educational aids for the public. It aims at helping teachers produce educational aids that contribute to facilitating the education process for people with autism spectrum disorder and clarifying the importance of educational aids in the education process. They play a pivotal role in enriching the education of students and involve their senses during education, and help to form their basic concepts.

The center would conclude the campaign activities with the fourth virtual sports festival for people with autism spectrum disorder, on Wednesday 20/4/2022. A number of students of various state centers and autism centers in Egypt, Jordan and Kuwait will participate.
