Dubai Municipality and FarmChimp hold “Meet the Farmer” event in Sharjah

SHARJAH — As part of its “Grow Your Food” initiative, Dubai Municipality joined hands with FarmChimp to conduct an event called, “Meet the Farmer” recently at the American School of Creative Science, Sharjah.

“It aims to create awareness about healthier food choices, natural food alternatives and importance of promoting natural farming methods,” said Noura Abdulla Al Shamsi, Head of Food Permits and Applied Nutrition Section at Dubai Municipality, who inaugurated the event.

“The event was very significant considering the negative effects of food habits in the modern city life. It’s more than just about what we eat, it’s about our health and future, and also about meeting the people who bring it to us, the responsible farmers,” she added.

The event included presentations and interactions with successful natural farmers from India and UAE as well as officials of Dubai Municipality’s Food Safety Department, represented by Al Shamsi, Bobby Krishna, Food Studies and Planning Specialist, and Shugufta Mohammed Zubair, Senior Food Safety Awareness Support Officer.

Krishna explained about food safety perspective in farming and the farm products, while Zubair presented the activities of “Grow Your Food” campaign. These sessions provided awareness and guidance to the participants on natural farming and natural farm produces for a healthier future.

P C Kabeer, CEO and Co-founder of FarmChimp, spoke about FarmChimp’s mission of bringing healthy food to their door steps. “FarmChimp believes in recognising the effort of responsible farmers and motivating them to promote production and distribution of healthy food,” he said.

FarmChimp is a new e-commerce platform, using the best of latest technologies to help responsible farmers sell their products direct to the customer.
