DUBAI, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, inaugurated a workshop, organised in cooperation with Intel Corporation, one of the largest multinational technology companies in the world.
The workshop focussed on available applications to use artificial intelligence, AI, and the use of its innovative technologies in DEWA’s workplace. Organised at the Innovation Tent in DEWA’s head office, it was attended by a number of DEWA executive vice presidents, vice presidents, officials and staff. This is part of DEWA’s ongoing efforts to keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and make use of disruptive technologies to reshape the future of digital utilities around the world.
The workshop, which was conducted by experts from Intel, reviewed the latest developments, the uses of AI, and methods to use these technologies across DEWA’s sectors, as well as employ them to serve people and society by providing a better quality of life.
Speaking about the workshop, Al Tayer said, “At DEWA, we strive to implement ambitious national strategies and plans to support the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence the first large project for the UAE Centennial 2071. This is the next phase after Smart Government. The UAE’s future services, sectors and infrastructure will depend on the investment and application of AI technologies and tools.
“We are keeping pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and taking advantage of its technologies. DEWA has been a pioneer in supporting the Dubai 10x initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve Dubai’s vision to become the city of the future, putting it 10 years ahead of other global cities. Dubai will do this by adopting new mechanisms of work to develop the future and contribute to Dubai’s sustainable competitiveness through disruptive technologies, such as AI, unmanned aerial vehicles, energy storage, blockchain, the Internet of Things, and many others.
“We have launched Digital DEWA, the digital arm of DEWA that reimagines the concept of service organisations and creates a new digital future for Dubai. Digital DEWA will enable us to apply a pioneering model for service organisations based on innovation in renewable energy, storing energy, AI and digital services. DEWA aims to shift the status quo of service organisations and transform us into the first digital organisation in the world with self-control systems for storing renewable energy and expanding the use of AI and digital services.”
DEWA has also launched its virtual employee, Rammas, to help with customer enquiries. The service is available 24/7 through its website, smart application, Facebook page, Amazon’s Alexa service, and Google’s AI Platform. In addition, DEWA announced the employment of robots as staff.
