AL-WAFA SCHOOL FOR CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT CELEBRATES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS

On Monday, Al-Wafaa School for Capacity Development of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) launched the celebrations of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Activities will last until December 8, through a series of events, lectures, workshops and activities. This year, the celebration is under the theme “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world”. SCHS students with disabilities, its workers, and students’ parents participated.

The ceremony began with the national anthem of UAE, which the musical band of the Academy of Police Sciences in Sharjah played. Then, the female student, “Mahra Abdel Aziz”, who is a person with multiple disabilities, recited some verses from the Holy Quran. The students of the school, in cooperation with the students of the Masarat Center for Development and Empowerment, acted in a play that talks about the right of people with disabilities to education and inclusion, which corresponds to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities theme.

The celebration included a variety of workshops, such as the “Mix Media” workshop, which is one of the modern workshops included by the school. The idea of the workshop depends on using more than one material to create the artistic piece. In addition, SCHS organized the “Arabic Calligraphy” workshop, the “Art and Innovation” musical instruments workshop, and the “Al-Likh” workshop. SCHS organized these workshops in cooperation with the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, as well as the Watercolor Printing, the Sensory Motor Skills, and the “Decoupage on Wood” workshops.
