HAAD Launches Abu Dhabi Award for Innovation in Healthcare

ABU DHABI, 29th March, 2017 (WAM) — Health Authority Abu Dhabi, HAAD, the healthcare sector’s regulator in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, announced the launch of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Healthcare Innovation Award, ADHIA.

The award initiative’s goal is to create a sustainable platform to encourage continuous innovation in healthcare and encourage the development of a comprehensive state-of-the-art healthcare research network covering private and public entities across Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of HAAD, stated, “The launch of the Abu Dhabi Healthcare Innovation Award is the latest in a series of efforts and initiatives mobilised by HAAD to help drive further innovation across healthcare services, and in turn encourage greater investment in Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector. The awards will be a vehicle which will undoubtedly boost innovation across industries, help spark creativity in science and technology among generations, and contribute to our vision of a ‘healthier Abu Dhabi.'”

The launch of the initiative will benefit Abu Dhabi in several key ways, explained Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Director of healthcare quality at HAAD.

“Chiefly, it will help activate an Emirate-wide healthcare research network an important initiative listed among the top priorities for the ‘Abu Dhabi Health Sector Strategy.’ Such a network will help improve the overall health status of the population, serve as an economic booster for Abu Dhabi, further attract and retain skilled clinicians, and boost the Emirate’s international reputation for innovation,” she said.

The first edition of ADHIA was launched during the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit, GMIS, the world’s first ever cross-industry forum held at Paris-Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi from 27th to 30th March, and is organised by Ministry of Economy, Department of Economic Development and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation.

ADHIA will focus on two pertinent research topics, “Non-communicable diseases” and “technology innovation in healthcare.” HAAD will open its award submission period and announce selection criteria later in 2017. The inaugural awards will take place in February 2018.
