Fantastic musical ensembles offer audible treat for Mother of the Nation Festival visitors

ABU DHABI, 29th March 2017 (WAM) – The Mother of the Nation Festival, now in its second edition and running on Abu Dhabi Corniche until the 4th of April, has an eclectic array of live performances and signature events in store throughout the festival grounds, as contemporary music performers across multiple genres, take to the stage to entertain festival-goers during the 10-day event.

Organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and held in celebration of the vision and far-reaching values of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the festival sheds light on the importance of family coherence and cultural understanding across UAE society.

Music enthusiasts can expect entertainment from a variety of accomplished artists, all of which have brought their talents to Abu Dhabi Corniche in a fantastic showcase of melodic excellence. With a diverse range of performances set to captivate audiences across pop-up stages and the main stage, below are five concerts not to be missed throughout the festival’s duration: 1. Ensijam � 17 Piece Arabic Orchestra: A melodic exploration of Arabic music, featuring the oud, violin, rabab and qanoon instruments, the spectacular Ensijam � 17 piece orchestra will fascinate the audience with its extensive selection of musical compositions that fuse Arabic and western sound.

2. Abu Dhabi Big Band: Formed in 2007 and boasting over twenty multinational saxophonists, trumpet and trombone players, pianists, guitarists and drummers, Abu Dhabi Big Band will captivate audiences with jazz renditions of popular compositions by acclaimed artists such as Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Tito Puente and Santana among others.

3. Funk Radius: Hamdan Al Abri: Emirati singer Hamdan Al Abri and keyboardist Julian Symes team up in a unique funk reggae neo-soul R&B collaboration, joined by their band members also from different origins. The 7-piece ensemble has performed regionally in Dubai and Bahrain, and on international stages, playing as supporting acts for acclaimed artists Kanye West, Mika, Joss Stone and Ziggy Marley.

4. New Orleans Jazz Band: Performers of traditional New Orleans Jazz, this band will transport you to the streets of Louisiana with foot-tapping rhythm in true New Orleans charm. The New Orleans Jazz Band, performing as a wandering act, is not to be missed in the Happiness Zone or pop-up stages across the festival’s grounds.

5. Lulu Project: Emirati band Sokoor Al Magabeel and Jordanian guitarist Kamal Musallam fuse jazz, soul and Arabic Emirati melody using Arabic Oud and Musallam’s newly crafted instrument called the “Glissentar”. Famed for combining the mystic of Arabic tunes with Spanish flamenco and jazz, Musallam has shared the stage with internationally renowned artists Billy Cobham, Bobby McFerrin, Stanley Jordan and others.

An incredible line-up of entertainment performances awaits visitors at the Mother of the Nation Festival taking place on the capital’s Corniche Beach from 4pm to midnight during week days, and 2pm to midnight during the weekend.
